the dial-up connection
1. Click the Start button
and select Control Panel.
2. Click on Network and Internet Connections and
then click Network Connections.
3. Click on Create a new connection. After the
New Connection Wizard starts, click Next.
4. In the Network Connection Type dialogue, choose the
Connect to the Internet option, then click Next.
5. Select "Set up my connection manually" and click
Next.
6. Select "Connect using a dial-up modem" and click
Next.
7. Enter TIES as the ISP Name and click Next.
8. Enter the phone number 651-765-8000. If you have
call waiting and wish to disable it while you are online, type *70
in front of the phone number. After you have entered the phone
number, click Next.
9. On the Connection Availability screen, select
"Anyone’s use" and click Next.
10. Enter the following in the appropriate fields:
User name: Your TIES login name
Password: Your TIES password
Password confirm: Your TIES password
Uncheck the box that says “Turn on
Internet Connection sharing for this connection,” then click Next.
This option may not be available to XP home users.
11. Check the box that says “Add a shortcut to this
connection to my desktop” and click Finish. When the "connect to
TIES" window comes up, click Properties.
12. In the TIES Properties window, click the Networking
tab at the top.
13. For "Type of dial-up server I am calling," select PPP:
Windows 95/98/2000, Internet from the pull-down menu.
14. In the "Components checked are used for this connection"
box, make sure the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) box has a checkmark to
the left of it.
15. Click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) once to select
it, then click the Properties button.
16. In the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window,
click on the "Use the following DNS server addresses" radio button.
In the Preferred DNS Server
box, type:
198.22.19.3
In the Alternate DNS Server
box, type:
198.22.19.2
17. Click OK and then OK again.
Connecting to the Internet
You have now completed all of the instructions that are needed
for your Internet connection. To get connected:
1. Double-click the TIES icon on your desktop.
2. Click the Dial button.
3. When you see that you are connected to TIES, you can begin
to use your Internet browser (e.g., Netscape Navigator or Internet
Explorer).
Disconnecting
from the Internet
When you are finished using the Internet and want to
disconnect, right-click on the Connection Status icon by your
clock. A menu will appear allowing you to choose to disconnect.
